Stop the traffik

What is Stop The Traffik?

STOP THE TRAFFIK is a global movement working to combat the fastest growing global crime, people trafficking. Around the world men, women and children are being treated as commodities—something to be bought, sold, and enslaved.

STOP THE TRAFFIK has more than 1000 member organisations in 50 countries & a grass roots following of ordinary activists around the world. Some of us sign petitions, wear symbols of the campaign, spread the message, and some of us show our support through adapting our lifestyles.

We believe that when people act things change.

We are working together in areas of education, advocacy and fundraising.

Education: Spreading the message, creating awareness and understanding of people trafficking.
Advocacy: When people act things change. Engaging with those who have the power to minimise the trafficking of people.
Fundraising: Financing anti-trafficking work around the world working with those vulnerable to and those who have been trafficked.

How we are involved

traffiked childrenAs a church community we are actively engaged with the Stop The Traffik campaign in three ways.

Whenever possible we take the opportunity to raise awareness of the subject. We distribute literature from tiem to time and especially enjoy school assemblies for both primary and secondary school children.

As we can we raise funds for the campaign. We have held a numebr of special events and have sold more than £1000 worth of the freedom keys.

We actively keep an eye open in our own neighbourhood for any evidence that people are being abused.

Our young people held a weekend campaign last year in the town centre when they had a Traffiking wall which raised the issue and encouraged people to send a postcard to their MP asking for government action over the abuse of traffiked people. We presented a petition of over 1000 signatures to the Stop The Traffik head office to be added to the national petition.
